Interview with Virtual Assistant (VA) Jennifer Jarvis

Jennifer is the owner of www.VirtualAssistantToHire.com

BIO

Jennifer Jarvis is a Virtual Assistant who has worked for some of the biggest names in the website and  search engine optimization business.  After working for large companies for several years, Jennifer made the decision to branch out on her own.

The decision came after watching these companies vastly overcharge for website and SEO services.  Jennifer realized that she could not only provide better services to her clients operating independently but could also offer the same services without having to worry about any overhead costs.  Since that time Jennifer has become one of the most revered and dependable Virtual Assistants both on the independent circuit and within business circles.

As her fees are typically 75% less than large companies who offer Virtual Assistant services her success continues to grow and she remains free to customize services based on client need as opposed to a corporate agenda.

Jennifer is married with 2 kids and loves being able to work from home and spend quality time with her family.

Q: Let's help clear this up right away. What is a Virtual Assistant (VA)?

A: Many individuals and businesses turn to Virtual Assistants for help as their businesses grow more and more dependant on internet and computer technologies.  Ironically however, though Virtual Assistants are often sought out for help, very few of the people looking for them really know what they are or what it is they do.

Of course those looking for a good Virtual Assistant know that they're knowledgeable when it comes to computer and the internet but what they don't know is that a Virtual Assistant is much more than just a simple tech solution.

The duties of a Virtual Assistant range from simple data entry and notation to the building, editing, and maintenance of websites.

There are also those Virtual Assistants who specialize in the Search Engine Marketing (SEO) or marketing of your website.  In fact it is the Virtual Assistants who posses both web and marketing skills that businesses prefer.  Some people like to think of Virtual Assistants as the "Jack Of All Trades" in the world of websites, which isn't far from the truth.

Q: What particular talents should we look for in a VA?

A: Most Virtual Assistants have a keen eye for both design and content and are experienced enough to know exactly what your target audience or demographic wants to see.  Moreover, these people generally possess some level of graphic design knowledge.  This means that a Virtual Assistant can also also edit and create images for your website which in turn saves business owners time and money.

The Virtual Assistants that are knowledgeable in search engine optimization quickly become valuable members of the team as they will ensure that a website not only looks great but garners the attention of search engines as well.  When this happens more people find a website and as a result the chances of doing business through a site are increased dramatically.

Q: Can a VA work from home?

A: Most Virtual Assistants work out of the home or at their own private office.  As a result of having no overhead costs, Virtual Assistants have become very popular with big website and marketing firms.

Normally Virtual Assistants are contracted out for a specific length of time or on a project to project basis.  Additionally because of they're knowledge, capability, low cost Virtual Assistants are often hired out by individuals who do so to get an extra marketing push for their website.  Many Virtual Assistants are hired by private individuals when the time comes for a website redesign or touch up as the cost is much more affordable than it is when dealing with large web firms.

Q: What happens when a client need you to do work you don't know how to do (like Flash or database)

A: I do know basic flash but items like programming and database are not my specialty. I will give my clients 2 options, 1. I can outsource the project to a talented programmer or affiliate capable of handling the job or 2. They can look into their own programmer and do some research on their own. Whatever makes them feel comfortable is ok with me. I am always honest with my clients and will tell them if I cannot handle the project thrown at me.

Q: Describe your ideal client
A: My ideal client would be willing to learn and help in the process of creating the web site or the marketing of their web site. Being proactive with their marketing will make them more successful. I want to see people do well and make money off their web site and it does mean being involved in the process. I do not have a favorite niche to work with but the clothing e-commerce sites are always fun!
Q: Video, teleseminars and podcasting are growing fast. Can you help your clients in those areas?

A:  Videos, podcasts and web cams are HOT right now! I love clients that ask for my help with this and there are soo many free programs out there to make it happen. I can definitely help make it happen and I recommend to every SEO client that videos on the web site are a must. Google can now read them so its important to incorporate them into your web site.

Q: What is your favorite social network?
A: Facebook is by far my favorite! I have not had a Facebook account for long but in that time I have meet some great people with all types of businesses. We exchange referrals and it seems to work real well in getting new business.

Q: What is your experience for getting clients directly from your social networking?
A: I have only gotten 1 client directly from my social networking accounts but I have gotten more referrals from my social networking partners.
