My Background

I have spent my entire lifetime making women look and feel great! I was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the oldest of four children. My entrepreneurial spirit was shown early. In elementary school I can remember making streaks in the girls’ hair at lunch for 25 cents each! Attending Pittsburgh Beauty Academy during summer and evening, I took my state boards and was licensed as a Cosmetologist even before graduating from high school. I attended University of Tennessee, studying Communication and Journalism. Prior to starting my business in 1986, I worked as a Cosmetology Teacher, Beauty Salon Manager and Stylist.

I am married to Major Alex Sutherland, US Army retired, with 4 children, 2 grandchildren and another grandchild on the way!  


My Business

I am a Sales Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics. I am considered a beauty expert with 23 years in business in Direct Sales. I have been continuously driving a career car with since 1987 with a new one every two years! Having led others to earn career cars, become sales directors, and place in the National Court of Personal Sales. I have earned the title of Queen of Direct Sales Mentoring & Marketing for women.

As a public speaker I have spoken to groups from 6 to 20,000. Because of my success in Direct Sales, I do conferences, seminars and home business mentoring. I am a former La Leche League leader. My passions include natural foods, gardening and parenting.

My career highlights are 2005 National Queen of Personal Sales and 2007 First Runner up! As a Sales Director I led my Sutherland Superstar unit to over 6 Million Dollars in retail Sales! I have overcome many obstacles in my journey including over 10 years as a single mom with no other income than my business. I chose this career because.....

I love changing lives and making a difference. As a stay at home mom, I found myself volunteering any chance that I could get, taking me away from my family. I thought that I could be a better mother if I could find a way to balance my time with priorities of God first, family second, and career third. I have found this and so much more in my business!
